Larry’s Journey to Recovery

A story of survival, caregiving, hope, and healing.

Before the blood clots, the stroke, and the emergency brain surgery, Larry was known for his passion, creativity, and deep connection to Denver’s hip-hop culture. He was featured in interviews discussing his role in music and entertainment, including being a pioneer of Love and Hip Hop, while sharing his vision, energy, and love for the community around him.

Music was not just something Larry enjoyed — it was part of who he was. He inspired people, built connections, and carried a larger-than-life spirit that touched many around him. Larry was always full of life, ambition, humor, creativity, and love for the people around him. He made an impression on people wherever he went, and his passion for music and culture became a major part of his identity.

Then our lives changed in an instant.

Larry suffered three blood clots that led to a devastating stroke and emergency brain surgery. What began as a normal day quickly became a fight for his life. In a matter of moments, everything changed for him and for everyone who loves him.

Since then, our family has been living through one of the most painful and uncertain seasons of our lives. The days have been filled with ICU rooms, long hospital nights, fear, exhaustion, setbacks, emotional heartbreak, and constant uncertainty. Recovery after stroke and brain surgery is not simple or predictable. There have been moments of hope and moments that terrified us.

One of the recent setbacks included another small brain bleed. Thankfully, doctors were able to get it under control quickly, but it was another reminder of how fragile and complicated this journey has been. At this time, rehabilitation has not yet started, as Larry continues working toward medical stability.

Still, Larry continues fighting.

We hold onto every small sign of progress because, in moments like these, even the smallest improvements feel enormous. Every response, every movement, and every moment of awareness gives us another reason to keep believing in recovery and healing.

The Reality of Caregiving

Throughout this entire journey, my daughter Lauren has remained faithfully by Larry’s side. Day after day, she has continued showing up through the uncertainty, emotional exhaustion, hospital stays, and endless worry that caregiving brings. Watching someone you love fight for their life changes you in ways that are difficult to describe. The emotional, physical, and financial strain on our family has been overwhelming.

Many people see a GoFundMe page, but they do not always see the reality behind it — the sleepless nights, the fear of losing someone you love, the exhaustion of trying to hold a family together while navigating a medical crisis that never fully lets you breathe, and the emotional toll of trying to stay strong while your world feels like it has been turned upside down.

More Than What Happened to Him

We are sharing Larry’s story not only to ask for help, but to honor who he is as a person and to keep hope alive around him. Larry is more than what happened to him. He is a father, loved one, creative spirit, and someone who made a lasting impact on the people around him long before this tragedy occurred.
